Plans afoot for the Penrith Winter Festival

Thursday, November 26th, 2015

Penrith will host its fourth annual Winter Festival; back with a selection box full of seasonal fun and festivities from 28th November to 24th December, throughout the town.

The festival kicks off with ‘Penrith Sparkles’ on Saturday 28th November, as the town is illuminated with even more Christmas sparkle including twinkling trees and chic lights, made possible by Penrith BID.  The lights will be switched on at 4pm, accompanied by a musical procession by the town band with the Penrith’s new Mayor; followed by a community carol concert, including local schools and community groups.  Audience participation is encouraged as organisers aim to get the whole town singing.

During the day Penrith will also host another visit from the iconic Coca-cola truck; which proved very popular in 2014.  The truck will be in town from 12pm to 8pm sharing a bit of festive magic…and of course free Coca-Cola.

Other highlights of the Festival include a new Christmas Market made possible by the Penrith Business Improvement District, Christmas themed park run, Christmas Jumper Day, Fiver Fest on Small Business Saturday, the #ElfieSelfie competition and the businesses and shops in town are all coming together to ‘Paint the Town red’ for Christmas…to name a few of the fantastic events taking place over December.

The Festival is a celebration of all the independent businesses and retailers there are in Penrith and is a way of encouraging people to shop local and support those businesses during the busy festive season.  Of course food plays a big part of the festive season and we have some of the finest food outlets in the county. And then there are all our independent shops where you can get individual gifts and clothes not available elsewhere.

Amyn Fazal, President of the Chamber of Trade comments,

“We are passionate about Penrith and helping to make a difference to the small businesses here that make our town special.  If everyone did at least some of their Christmas shopping in Penrith it can make a significant and positive impact on the local economy. Last year we knew of many who did all their shopping here.  The festival has grown each year and more and more people are getting involved – there is a lot for everyone to do and get involved in and we hope everyone enjoys the festivities.”

All details of the Penrith Winter Festival can be found on or pick up one of the free programmes in and around the town – which include some exclusive offers and vouchers for shoppers.

The Penrith Winter festival is organised by Penrith Chamber of Trade with Acorn Marketing; with funding from the Penrith Business Improvement District and the Pride in Penrith Lottery and with sponsorship from the Lakes & Dales Co-Operative, Cumbrian Homes, Penrith Building Society and made possible by Discover Penrith.
